My wife and I just want to thank Envisioning Green and their great employees Doug, Justin and Jeremy. You made our back hillside look amazing and truly hit what we wanted. I wish I could post pictures as I have been bragging to everyone. The guys worked their tails off in the high heat and I could not be more grateful for what they did. They were attentive to their work and our dogs.

Envisioning Green is an excellent company to do business with! Charles did a superlative job of planning our project and took our vision of creating a ‘Dog Dream Park’ and enhanced it beyond our expectations! Our rescue dog ‘Maggie’ is having such a great time in her new dream park.

Justin, Brian, and their teammates were incredibly detailed, meticulous in their work, and made the entire experience very memorable. Our family is overly grateful for the professionalism, attention to detail, and expertise from the guys.

We have been with the company for 10 years and they always go above and beyond!

Don’t Want To Write This Review … Seriously

Having read the title, it would be understandable if your mind jumped to the assumption that I am preparing to present a plethora of faults with the company, the crew, the work … whatever. But nothing could be further from my thoughts. The reason for my not wanting to write this review is because reviews mark the end of something and I find it hard to meet this particular end; the people involved here, the ones leaving because their work is finished, are people I’ve come to so admire and care about.

I’m 63 years old. I’ve hired contractors throughout my life for big jobs, small jobs and all of those in between. Too often I’ve been profoundly amazed at the level of incompetence displayed by self-proclaimed professionals; their work so shoddy that one simply had to accept the entirety of their training must have come from watching YouTube videos or that some had perhaps once made a wooden letter holder for their mother and, having completed that arduous task, then decided they were skilled enough to build houses. After experiencing so many contractor related disappointments through the years, I finally came to often expect the worst as the new normal.

At 62, I bought my retirement home and soon decided it needed some updates that were far beyond my own ability to complete. I began with a clear vision of what I wanted and began seeking out a company, a partner, that could bring my ideas to life. I called or visited companies large and not-so-large and even approached recommended individuals. Most all of these I asked said they couldn’t do what I wanted and those few that said they could really didn’t have the quality materials, proper experience or share vision that I was looking for. In that I would be spending my retirement money on one-time projects, I could no longer afford to have contractors that were only going to provide me with “good-enough” or less. In driving around through southern Illinois and Missouri, I’d seen some beautiful places with completed projects similar to what I wanted but couldn’t bring myself to go up and ask any of the home owners who it was had done the work for them. My bad.

Then I began searching the internet with key terms like outdoor fireplace, stone staircase, outdoor kitchen, etc.; began searching images of such projects that closely matched what I had imagined. Clicking on an image would sometimes provide a link to the company that had built the project. And that’s how it was I came to find an image, clicked on it and discovered a link to Envisioning Green. I thought it an odd name but, hey, the image was all that and so I was willing to reach out this one more time.

Lindsey Bigham answered the phone when I rang Envisioning Green. I was in a mood and immediately launched into a rather loud and semi-accusatory rant the second she finished saying hello. ”Look”, I nearly shouted at her, “I have some projects in mind and I’ve been looking everywhere for someone to put it all together and I know exactly what I want but no one out there seems willing or able to do it and I found you by searching images on the internet but I’ve never heard of you and I just need some decent people who can be on the same page with me and …” Lindsey, taking advantage of my having to take a breath before going on with the rant, broke in. “OK, OK, calm down. It’ll be fine ...” She then went on to describe the company, the services, the personnel and then added that they were hosting a get-together for past, present and possibly future customers at their Caseyville facility later that evening; something they do several times a year; and that I was welcome to join them.

My first thought was an unenthusiastic, “Yeah, sure” as I’d been to more than a few landscaping facilities and could clearly picture arriving guests being herded into a small showroom; the walls lined with samples of pavers and retaining wall stones where we would find a plate of cookies and paper cups half filled with punch sitting next to stacks of brochures laid out for us to peruse and learn all about the wonders of driveways and decking.

But Lindsey had been kind and Caseyville was only a few miles down the road so I set my sour expectations aside and decided to attend.

Upon parking and exiting the car, I was blown away; could immediately see this was not your typical landscaping facility as full scale examples of their work were everywhere; an outdoor fireplace, one story pizza oven, outdoor kitchen and bar, various stone pathways and boulders, firepits, even a putting green; all of it functional and now being used to entertain their arriving guests outdoors.

Fast forward to a year later. All six of my major projects are completed and the end results are so much better than I had ever envisioned they could be. Any bumps encountered along the way came strictly from my end; my occasionally asking to change a project in part or all together; to delete something here or add something there and never once did anyone respond with a “No, Mike” or “We can’t do that, Mike”.

From project design to coordination to implementation, the personnel at Envisioning Green come together more as a family than as workers simply given orders to complete. I could relate to you several times when I was absolutely floored at their persistence, at their attention to detail, and I could easily see at every step along the way they were actually doing the quality of work for my projects the very same as if they had been doing the work at their own homes. I can honestly say that I have never had a better group of people on my side or been more pleased with the outcome of projects proposed and then completed. Each person at Envisioning Green embodies the truer meaning of the word Professional; not only bringing skill and competence to the table but serving up pride in their work as well.

I will note that my various projects were substantial and, altogether, took almost a year to complete. The crew worked in all kinds of weather; through stifling heat in the summer and on through much of the freezing, wet mess we had this last winter. I never asked they hurry but rather mentioned many times I would rather they take their time, do it once, do it right.

Keep in mind the old adage that reads “You get what you pay for”. Almost any project I can think of that you would ask Envisioning Green to build for you is likely to be a one-time thing and will likely outlive you; could easily be something that several generations might get to enjoy. I promise you won’t get that by trying to save a few dollars and submitting your dream to the lowest bidder. Just saying.

So, am sorry for the long review but it simply couldn’t have been a short one. While I feel personally fortunate to have found these guys, in truth, it is they who are fortunate to get to work with each other on a daily basis. Forced to leave their families each morning and head out to work, they are yet blessed to then be able to spend the day with their second family; one that cares about them just as much.

Steven and his team recently went out of their way to make things right. Envisioning green worked with us to procure new plants and provided the labor to install at no charge - even coming back on two separate occasions checking the quality of the work. I'm pleased to share that they stood by their word and worked to turn our experience into a positive one.

Thanks for the commitment and stewardship.

We purchased or new Ranch style home nearly four years ago after living in a two-story for 20 plus years. This was the type of home and style of home my wife and I were searching for once we decided to move. We found our dream home sitting on 2 difficult acres. Once in the backyard, it sloped heavily down to a 1 Acre retention pond that was really in awful condition. We did see potential for something very special if we could find the right company to partner with. We met the entire staff at Envisioning green through an invitation to one of their Wine Open Houses. While there, we were able to see their many outdoor exhibits and view their picture portfolios and well as speak with some of their current and past customers.

Late last summer and we had their owner and designer over to discuss the entire project; both pond remediation and backyard creation. We wanted a pool, gas fire pit and an outdoor bar and as usually happens....once we got going, we added a little more!

The process was quite impressive as we gave them a list of must haves and a budget for the project. We did have change orders for things we elected to add but once we signed, it couldn't have gone smoother. The project turned out amazingly like the electronic design plan they initially presented us with no unwanted surprises. They worked through the winter, around the early spring rains and we are now enjoying our backyard immensely.

With our property, there was so much more complexity than what I'm able to describe here and we knew we couldn't turn this over to just any company based solely on price or promise. For the reasonable budget we gave them we received an "HGTV"" backyard in return. Great job Envisioning Green!

“This is the happiest I have ever been with a landscaping company. So professional! I have several projects I’ll be needing you for in the near future! I’ll call you next spring early to get started. Plus, this is the best our lawn has ever looked too. They also do a great job!”

“We used Envisioning Green because no one else would return our phone calls or emails. We are glad that they didn’t now. So happy with the retaining wall and attention paid to details. The crew was so friendly and pleasant to work with and be around. We are looking forward to working with them on future projects.”

We appreciate all the ideas, energy and work you put into our project. From design through construction you were very professional, easy to work with, and committed to giving us what we wanted. We are very pleased with the result and in knowing we chose the right company to create our backyard experience.

Impressive ability to repair existing patio and wall! Envisioning Green installed a patio, fire place and wall about 2 years ago. The edge of patio, where the wall is, gives way to downward sloping terrain. There is an established flower bed on the outer portion of this wall. Over time, the wall began to tilt outwards from the patio and towards the sloping terrain, and patio pavers on the patio side of the wall began to settle. This was brought to Envisioning Green's attention and they set up a schedule to have their team look at it. Scheduling conflicts aside, the team showed up ready to analyze the situation and remedy it. Their plan consisted of digging under the wall to stabilize the sub soil, as well as putting in three concrete pillars, so that when done, the pillars would better support the weight of the wall. In addition, they planned to remove the pavers that settled, stabilize the soil under the affected part of the patio, and replace the pavers. Remember, this is an established patio and flower bed. The 3 team members managed to complete their plan in about 5 hours. They were so meticulous and careful that not a single plant/bush was destroyed. They dug around root balls to get under the wall and further dug 3-foot deep holes into which concrete was poured in order to establish the supporting pillars for the wall, all the while protecting the existing landscaping. With similar care and concern, they removed the pavers that had settled, re-stabilized the soil under them, and replaced the pavers in their original position. Once the subsoil under the wall was stabilized and the concrete for the pillars poured, Juan and his team put the dirt back in place and cleaned up the work area. They did such a great job, it was as if the area was never disturbed! The only thing that was different was the wall no longer leaned outward from the patio, and the pavers were level again. Great job Envisioning Green, Juan and team!! Many thanks!!

Patrick was awesome to work with. I really appreciated the time to work with my budget and work out the projects I could afford. The foreman that did the landscaping was also awesome. Worked really hard to make certain it was done right. His helper Josh was great too. Jumped out of the truck right to work.

Lindsey is a great point person. Phone skills and attitude excellent for any company!! All of the workers spoke highly of the company. It’s difficult to keep good workers with good work ethic. You as a company must be instilling ownership and pride of work – That is a credit to your leadership and an encouragement to continue and enhance what you are doing for the employees that reflect your company.
– Ed – Brighton, IL

Envisioning Green has always met/exceeded my expectations. While I realize that learning curves exist with new crews, Patrick quickly made corrections/adjustments with his crews and solved the few minor issues I encountered early in the season. In fact, Patrick even responded to my emails while on vacation, reflecting an “above and beyond” attitude and excellent attention to detail and customer service. I have the nicest looking yard in the neighborhood and am consistently receive compliments from neighbors. I respond “it’s not me, it’s Envisioning Green…call them!”

You know you are in good hands when you engage a company that (1) listens, (2) responds, AND (3) delivers!
Mr. Johns and his crew tackled our unique landscaping problem with vision and hard work. I never saw such a hard-working crew. They were pedal-to-the metal from arrival to departure on a job that was complex and challenging. Our hats are off to them+Mr. Johns, you have a wonderful company and a competent crew.
We had previous experience with a different landscaper, and unfortunately, that experience left us wary and concerned. Mr. Johns and his crew stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam. Our landscaping is now the jewel that we once envisioned, and, it's GREEN too! I think you have honored your company's name in the project you completed for us.
With sincere thanks,

- Carol and Dean L. – Godfrey, IL

Your proposal for the work was prepared in an understandable & very professional manor. Your crew constructed the wall exactly as we requested and left the construction site very neat and clean. Thank you for a job well done!
JoAnn S. – Godfrey, IL

The man you have in charge for mowing is very accommodating. He does a great job.

I was away on a business trip when Envisioning Green completed my backyard project. When I returned, I didn't believe I was in the same place, I looked like I had just stepped into a resort

We would definitely utilize your services again - and recommend you to our friends and neighbors.
